Redmond lindens are famously tall and large. The average height for this species is 75ft and the average spread is over 45 feet! The reason this species grows so tall is because they do best in full sunlight and naturally strive upwards towards it. But Redmond lindens also tolerate shade to some degree. It is also resistant to most pests and diseases. This tree’s leaves are larger than average and can grow up to over 8 inches long and are ovular in shape. They most likely grow large because they host drooping clusters of flowers in the late spring. The flowers are small, light yellow in appearance and grow in clusters of 5-10 blooms. Swarms of bees tend to frequent this species when it blooms; so much so that, in the spring, buzzing can be heard many feet from the top of the tree. And it’s not just bees that love this trees flowers, humans often make tea from the blooms and the tree’s sap can be made into sweet, delicious syrup! Honey made from Redmond flower nectar is a cherished food item. Redmond lindens are typically seen towering over forests but they make a wonderful, sturdy and low-maintenance addition to any lawn or landscape.
